Scarborough: Pompeo ‘disgracing himself’ by ‘insulting’ Fox’s Chris Wallace
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Monday teed off on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, calling his remarks during an interview with “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace “disgraceful” and “insulting.”
“He is beneath contempt. He should be ashamed of himself. He’s doing a disservice to the United States of America,” Scarborough said on “Morning Joe.”
{mosads}”And that bumbling, stupid act that he did on Fox News, insulting Chris Wallace,” he added.
“And the viewers,” injected co-host Mika Brzezinski.
“And the viewers! It’s just disgraceful,” Scarborough exclaimed. “It’s just disgraceful! Mike Pompeo is unworthy to hold any public office for the rest of his life.”
Scarborough, a former GOP congressman who left the party in 2017, took issue with Pompeo’s frustration at Wallace on Sunday regarding why President Trump didn’t confront Russian President Vladimir Putin on meddling in the 2016 election.
“You are looking at the administration that has been tougher on Russia than any of its predecessors, and yet you continue to be fixated on something that Robert Mueller wrote down,” Pompeo told Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”
“I’m not fixated about Robert Mueller, I’m fixated on the president’s conversation with Vladimir Putin, and the fact that in a conversation he doesn’t even mention meddling in 2020,” Wallace retorted. “And the question I’m asking, I think it’s a legitimate one, a lot of people are asking it, sir, is ‘Why not?’ “
Pompeo replied by explaining that it should be understood that “sometimes conversations just aren’t long enough to include every issue that might be brought up.”
“But no one should misunderstand from your question today, your viewers should not be misled, this administration has taken seriously the threat of election interference and will continue to do so,” the secretary of State added.
Scarborough on Monday also said Pompeo should be “at the top of the list of day traders who don’t understand: Donald Trump is going to be out of office in a year and a half, and he’s going to be at home, sitting at home.”
“Because he’s disgracing himself every day, attacking Chris Wallace, attacking ‘Fox News Sunday,’ and attacking the viewers,” the MSNBC host added.
Scarborough had predicted on several occasions last year that Trump would not seek reelection.
“I don’t think Donald Trump is going to run for reelection,” Scarborough told CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert in October 2018. “He didn’t want to be elected president. He didn’t think he was going to be elected president. He didn’t even think he was going to get the Republican nomination. He’s going to cash out.”
