Al Jazeera suspended two journalists after they posted a video that questioned “how true” the Holocaust is.
The journalists posted the video on the AJ+ social media service, according to The Guardian. The video described the deaths of 6 million Jews during the Holocaust as a “narrative” “adopted by the Zionist movement,” according to the newspaper, drawing swift condemnation.
The journalists also attached a caption to the video that read, “The gas chambers killed millions of Jews … So the story says. How true is the #Holocaust and how did the Zionists benefit from it?”
The video also stated that “Israel is the No. 1 beneficiary from the Holocaust, using it as an excuse for ethnic cleansing and exterminating Palestinians,” according to The Jerusalem Post.
The video was quickly removed by AJ+, the Post reported.
Al Jazeera issued a statement over Twitter that the video was removed because it “violated the editorial standards of the network.”
In a written statement posted on its website on Sunday, Al Jazeera also wrote that it “completely disowns the offensive content in question” and that the digital division’s executive director has called for “mandatory bias training” following the incident.
“Al Jazeera would not tolerate such material on any of the Network’s platforms,” the statement reads. “Al Jazeera continues to adhere to the journalistic values of honesty, courage, fairness, balance, independence, credibility and diversity, giving no priority to commercial or political over professional consideration.”
