CNN’s Alisyn Camerota stumps spelling bee champs with her first name

CNN “New Day” anchor Alisyn Camerota stumped the winners of this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee when she asked them to spell her first name during a segment Friday.

After conferring for more than 30 seconds, the eight co-champions answered with: “A-L-Y-S-S-O-N.”

“That’s a good guess. That’s a really good guess,” Camerota replied. 

“Unfortunately, that is incorrect,” added her co-anchor, John Berman.

{mosads}“Wait. What?” some in the group replied, as Camerota held back laughter.

“They broke the dictionary. But we broke the Spelling Bee champions with the name Alisyn Camerota,” Berman noted before congratulating the champs.

“I am awe of what you do,” he said.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee made history on Thursday night after organizers were forced to declare eight co-champions. Each of them had successfully spelled every word correctly after 17 rounds. The words included auslaut, erysipelas, bougainvillea, and pendeloque.  

Each of the Scripps winners will take home $50,000.
