CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta warned conservative media that a future president could attack them the same way President Trump has attacked news organizations like his own.
{mosads}“To our friends in conservative media, Anderson, I say this: It is no guarantee that you get to stay in power forever,” Acosta told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “Another administration could come in and do the very same thing to them and say, ‘Well, Donald Trump did it. Guess what, we’re going to do it to you guys, too.’”
Trump has routinely lambasted outlets such as CNN, The New York Times and The Washington Post as “fake news.” He’s also branded the media as “the enemy of the people.” Trump also called Acosta “fake news” after refusing to answer his question during a White House press conference.
Meanwhile, Trump has praised Fox News since the beginning of his presidency, calling it “much more important in the United States than CNN.”
Acosta said he wanted to “take the big-picture view” with his new book, “The Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America.”
“What I wanted to do is sort of take the big-picture view on this and say, ‘Is this the kind of country we want to hand off to the next generation, where we’re now comfortable from here on out saying that the press is the enemy of the people and to our friends in conservative media?’” Acosta said.
