Scarborough compares Trump rally to late-period Elvis show

“Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough on Wednesday compared President Trump’s reelection rally to performances by Elvis Presley late in his career, when the rock ‘n’ roller was “sweating, trying to sing the old hits but his heart is just not in it.”

Scarborough knocked Trump’s lack of energy and said it reminded him of Presley’s last performances prior to his death in 1977 at the age of 42.

{mosads}“I mean no disrespect to the king of rock ‘n’ roll, but this is Elvis in ’77,” Scarborough said while speaking with a panel on his show. “Just kind of lumbering across the stage. Sweating.”

Trump spoke to a packed crowd of roughly 20,000 people at Orlando’s Amway Center for about 78 minutes. The crowd was filled with people wearing red “Make America Great Again” hats, and Trump reveled in the fact that people had camped out to get a spot at the launch.

Some coverage of Trump’s rally was complimentary. A Politico story pronounced it as Trump’s “greatest show yet” and described an adoring crowd of red, white and camouflage hats chanting “USA.”

But Scarborough, a frequent Trump critic who has feuded with the president since before his election, said the campaign kickoff was lackluster.

“They know all the words and the guy who was once so exciting now is just dull,” Scarborough said.

“He’s still attacking Hillary Clinton,” Scarborough said in apparent disbelief. “Like doing ‘lock her up’ things. I mean, that’s beyond.”
