Fox News Channel said its Independence Day programming, starting Wednesday, will include a focus on a national charity that provides scholarships for families of wounded or fallen military members.
The nonprofit group Folds of Honor has partnered with the cable news channel since 2011, leading to more than $17 million for educational scholarships to spouses and children of fallen and disabled U.S. service members, according to Fox.
{mosads}Over the past eight years, donations to Folds of Honor families have climbed from $1.7 million in 2011 to $18.9 million last year. The number of scholarships has also increased, from 10 during the first year and almost 4,000 in 2018, according to data provided by the network.
As part of the charitable effort, Fox News host Greg Gutfeld recently collaborated with country music star John Rich to write a song called “Shut Up About Politics,” which rose to No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Digital Songs Sales chart in June, with more than 45,000 sales to date and all proceeds going to Folds of Honor.
Fox said its July 4 coverage will consist of its annual “Proud American” series, including a special two-hour report starting 6 p.m. President Trump is slated to give a speech from the Lincoln Memorial that day starting at 6:30 p.m. The president’s “Salute to America” event is expected to include tanks on the National Mall and a flyover by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
Folds of Honor families will be recognized as part of the Proud American series on both Wednesday and Thursday, according to Fox.
