Fox News closes out July as most-watched cable network for 37th straight month
Fox News finished July as the most-watched network on basic cable for the 37th consecutive month, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Overall, Fox News delivered 1.4 million total viewers this month in the category of total day, which runs from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Eastern. MSNBC was second among news networks with 852,000 viewers and CNN third in the category with 557,000.
In primetime, Fox News averaged 2.44 million total viewers. MSNBC placed second with an average of 1.5 million, followed by CNN with 797,000.
{mosads}The top two programs in cable news for the month of July were Fox News’s “Hannity” with 3.33 million total viewers, followed by “Tucker Carlson Tonight” with 3.145 million. “The Ingraham Angle,” and “The Five” round out the third and fourth place spots overall, with MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show” dropping from third in June to fifth overall in July in total viewer rankings.
Overall, Fox News made up 11 of the top 15 programs on cable news, with MSNBC filling out the other four spots. The two networks finished in the top spots of basic cable, with Home and Garden Television, TLC and USA Network rounding out the third, fourth and fifth spots.
CNN’s highest rated program, “Cuomo Prime Time” finished 24th overall in total viewers in averaging 954,000. Overall, the network finished 13th in total viewers.
In the key 25-54 demographic that advertisers covet most, the order of finish was the same. Sean Hannity came in first with 527,000 viewers in the category, followed by Tucker Carlson with 519,000.
Laura Ingraham was third with 418,000, with “The Five” taking in 398,000 to finish fourth and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow fifth with 384,000.
