Fox Business host Trish Regan and Dana Loesch spar over background checks
Fox Business host Trish Regan and former NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch engaged in a Twitter exchange about background checks on Wednesday.
The exchange happened after Regan called on President Trump to “BAN assault weapons and envoke strict gun laws and backgrnd checks in one executive order.”
“To heck w/ lobbyists at NRA – the majority of Americans and common sense supports this! It’s time to do what is right for our country,” Regan also wrote.
{mosads}Loesch responded in a tweet saying she disagreed with Regan, while saying she was unsure which poll supported the Fox host’s argument that a majority of Americans support more action on guns.
Regan then fired back, noting, “She has to disagree bc she’s paid to disagree,” while reiterating that the “majority of Americans believe we need better background checks for prospective gun owners.”
Loesch defended her record, saying she was not paid to disagree and that she has been a “strong” defender of the Second Amendment “for well over a decade.”
She then again questioned Regan’s data, prompting Regan to reply with screenshots of polling figures.
.@realDonaldTrump has a major opportunity: he can BAN assault weapons and envoke strict gun laws and backgrnd checks in one executive order. To heck w/ lobbyists at NRA – the majority of Americans and common sense supports this! It’s time to do what is right for our country.

Sorry Trish, but I do disagree with you on this. I’m not quite sure where your numbers come from on polling or how you would avoid creating a national registry. Happy to discuss it. https://t.co/WvhkJkx0Nj

She has to disagree bc she’s paid to disagree. I don’t envy her position.
Nonetheless – majority of Americans believe we need better background checks for prospective gun owners. No one w/common sense believes we should hand an assault rifle to a mentally ill person. https://t.co/Lx7d3uH6K1

This ergo decedo response is unnecessary, Trish. I’ve been a strong public 2A defender for well over a decade, and I’m not paid to disagree with you or anyone else.
What data? What do you mean by “better background checks?” Who said to hand “assault weapons” to the mentally ill? https://t.co/1YkIh23YbG

The Twitter exchange come days after two mass shootings left more than 30 people dead, renewing attention to U.S. gun laws.
President Trump said Wednesday that he is “all in favor” of background checks but doubts that Congress would approve.
