President Trump on Monday lashed out at the news media and the Democratic Party, two of his favorite targets, in a set of Labor Day morning tweets.
{mosads}”The Amazon Washington Post did a story that I brought racist attacks against the ‘Squad.’ No, they brought racist attacks against our Nation,” he tweeted.
“All I do is call them out for the horrible things they have said. The Democrats have become the Party of the Squad!” he added.
Trump seemed to be referring to an article published Sunday in The Washington Post that detailed the president’s summer.
Among other incidents, the report covered Trump’s attacks on Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), a group of lawmakers known as “the squad.”
Trump said they should “go back” to the “places from which they came,” later accusing them of hating America.
All four lawmakers are minorities and U.S. citizens. Omar is the only one who was born in another country.
The House voted to condemn the remarks as racist.
“Trump leveled racist attacks against four congresswomen of color dubbed ‘the Squad,'” the Post’s report reads.
Trump frequently targets both the Post and its owner, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, claiming that the newspaper is a lobbying arm for the technology and retail giant.
The president continued his attacks on the media in two follow-up tweets.
“The LameStream Media has gone totally CRAZY! They write whatever they want, seldom have sources (even though they say they do), never do ‘fact checking’ anymore, and are only looking for the ‘kill,'” he tweeted, without providing examples.
“They are now beyond Fake, they are Corrupt,” he added. “The good news is that we are winning. Our real opponent is not the Democrats, or the dwindling number of Republicans that lost their way and got left behind, our primary opponent is the Fake News Media.”
