Whoopi Goldberg warns Debra Messing for trying to publicize Trump donors

“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg on Tuesday took aim at actress Debra Messing, saying that her suggestion to publicly identify the names of President Trump’s donors attending a fundraiser could lead to a “blacklist.”

{mosads}During Tuesday’s show, Goldberg addressed Messing’s tweet encouraging the publication of the names of attendees at the president’s upcoming fundraiser in Beverly Hills during Emmys week, calling Messing’s desire to see Trump’s donors outed publicly dangerous.

“Listen, the last time people did this, people ended up killing themselves,” Goldberg told her audience.

“This is not a good idea, OK?” she continued. “Your idea of who you don’t want to work with is your personal business. Do not encourage people to print out lists because the next list that comes out, your name will be on and then people will be coming after you.”

“We had something called a blacklist and a lot of really good people were accused of stuff. Nobody cared whether it was true or not. They were accused. And they lost their right to work. … In this country, people can vote for who they want to. That is one of the great rights of this country,” Goldberg added.

Messing had encouraged The Hollywood Reporter in a tweet to publish the names of attendees at an upcoming Trump fundraiser after the news outlet first reported on the event in late August.

“Please print a list of all attendees please. The public has a right to know,” the actress wrote.

The president later lashed out at Messing in his own tweet, claiming that Messing had been courteous to him when the two had met previously.

“I have not forgotten that when it was announced that I was going to do The Apprentice, and when it then became a big hit, helping NBC’s failed lineup greatly, @DebraMessing came up to me at an Upfront & profusely thanked me, even calling me ‘Sir.’ How times have changed!” he tweeted over the weekend.
