Spicer on ‘Dancing with the Stars’: ‘Those of us who stand for #Christ won’t be discounted’

Former White House press secretary and current “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Sean Spicer on Tuesday implored viewers to vote for him to “send a message to #Hollywood that those of us who stand for #Christ won’t be discounted.”

Spicer made the call on Twitter after his viral debut on Monday night, which included him performing to a Spice Girls song while wearing a neon puffy shirt.

Spicer, who served as press secretary under President Trump from January to August 2017, made his pitch after former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) asked viewers to vote for Spicer to “create an emotional meltdown in Hollyweird.”

“Wanna create an emotional meltdown in Hollyweird?” Huckabee tweeted, adding a GIF from the 2004 film “Napoleon Dynamite.” “Vote for @seanspicer to win ‘Dancing with the Stars’ tonight and every night he’s on. @seanspicer is a good guy and a brave sport to go on DWTS. Let’s show him some love!”

{mosads}Spicer, 47, retweeted Huckabee and argued that he’d need viewer support to advance on the show.

“Clearly the judges aren’t going to be with me,” Spicer wrote to his more than 400,000 followers. “Let’s send a message to #Hollywood that those of us who stand for #Christ won’t be discounted.”

Spicer deleted the tweet late Tuesday morning and amended it with a simple thank you to Huckabee for his support.

The former Republican National Committee spokesman also took to Facebook to share his enthusiasm for participating in a competition out of his comfort zone.

“What. A. Night. Playing the bongos to the Spice Girls, while wearing a low cut ruffled lime green shirt check every box I had for getting out of my comfort zone. I had a blast! If you saw the video where I started, know that everything last night was because of the amazing pro I have to work with every day. @lindsarnold is an amazing person, an unbelievably talented dancer and a patient and kind coach that has made this journey a blast,” he wrote.

Spicer’s debut lit up Twitter on Monday night after he sported a neon green, ruffled shirt and tight-fitting white pants while performing to the 1997 Spice Girls hit “Spice Up Your Life” with champion dancer Lindsay Arnold during the show’s premiere.

The performance earned just 12 points out of a possible 30 from the judges.

“It’s like you were being attacked by a swarm of wasps,” one judge said of Spicer’s performance.

“Dancing with the Stars” doesn’t eliminate any participants in Week 1, meaning Spicer will be back next week.
