Liberal news site Splinter shutting down
Liberal news site Splinter ceased publication on Thursday, its editor in chief said.
“It has been my greatest honor to have been the editor of this site and I will love this staff to my dying breath,” Aleksander Chan tweeted.
“Thank you to all of our readers, fans, and haters—it’s been a thrill,” he added. “Further details TK. Splinter forever.”
As of today, Splinter will cease publication. It has been my greatest honor to have been the editor of this site and I will love this staff to my dying breath. Thank you to all of our readers, fans, and haters—it’s been a thrill. Further details TK. Splinter forever.

In that memo, Paul Maidment praised the site for its reporting, but said that the site struggled to attract a large audience of readers, the Daily Beast added.
The memo also reportedly stated that there would be “no reduction of G/O Media’s editorial workforce as a result of this decision,” and that Splinter’s staff would be “reallocated” to other G/O sites such as Deadspin, Jezebel and Gizmodo.
It’s true! Splinter is shutting down and we’re all being laid off. This is by far the best job I’ve ever had and I will be forever proud of everything we’ve done together.
