Scarborough, Brzezinski honor Cummings as ‘true patriot fighting for justice and truth’

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski honored the late Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) following his passing Thursday morning, calling him “a true patriot fighting for justice and truth.”

Cummings married Scarborough and Brzezinski in a November 2018 ceremony at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and often joined their weekday MSNBC program “Morning Joe.”

“Thank you, Elijah, for being such a good friend. But we thank God even more that you were such a powerful advocate for your constituents and a true patriot fighting for justice and truth,” Scarborough wrote to his more than 2 million followers alongside a photo from the wedding ceremony.

“We are heartbroken,” Brzezinski also tweeted with the same photo.

Scarborough also addressed President Trump’s past criticism of Cummings’s handling of his Baltimore district on “Morning Joe.”
“If you wonder what Elijah Cummings did for his district, he comforted people who were scared of you,” Scarborough, a former GOP congressman who left the Republican Party in 2017 over Trump, said Thursday morning.

Cummings, the chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, was 68.
