Meghan McCain slams Rand Paul for trying to out whistleblower: ‘I hate him’
“The View” co-host Meghan McCain on Tuesday said that she “hates” Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) for his comments saying that the identity of the whistleblower whose complaint launched an impeachment inquiry into President Trump should be revealed.
According to a clip posted by Mediaite, while discussing the impeachment inquiry into Trump, co-host Whoopi Goldberg said, “Here’s what senator — ugh — Rand Paul has said.”
“I hate him,” McCain interjected in the middle of Goldberg’s sentence. {mosads}
A clip then played of Paul’s Monday remarks, in which he said at a rally for Trump, “I say tonight to the media, do your job and print his name,” referring to the whistleblower.
“He sounds so crazy. Why does he sound so crazy?” McCain, the show’s most conservative host, said.
“Because he’s forgotten the rule of law,” Goldberg responded.
The senator’s comments at the Kentucky rally followed similar remarks from Trump himself.
“He gave a report — he or she, but according to the newspapers it’s a he,” Trump said Sunday of the whistleblower. “They know who it is. You know who it is. You just don’t want to report it. CNN knows who it is, but you don’t want to report it. And you know, you would be doing the public a service if you did.”
The whistleblower’s identity is not public. Trump did not give evidence for his claim that CNN or other news outlets know the person’s identity.
The whistleblower is subject to federal protections against retaliation under the law. After the person’s complaint, the House launched an impeachment inquiry into Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.
