President Trump’s reelection campaign ripped Washington Post congressional reporter Rachael Bade for a since-deleted tweet that included a photo of four Post reporters with the caption “Merry Impeachmas” on Wednesday night after President Trump was impeached in two nearly party-line votes.
“Merry Impeachmas from the WaPo team!” wrote Bade while having dinner and drinks after impeachment votes were cast in the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives. ”@pkcapitol is buying … w/@karoun @seungminkim @mikedebonis.”
Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, Brad Parscale, and the president’s son Eric Trump quickly criticized the tweet by Bade, who also serves as a CNN contributor, as an example of media bias.
“Ladies & gentlemen, your fair and objective press corps in action! What a joke,” Parscale tweeted. “Media needs to stop acting like they are ‘impartial’.”
Bade deleted the tweet hours later, saying it was “being misinterpreted by some as an endorsement of some kind.”
A Washington Post spokesperson told The Hill that Bade was “off the clock” and wasn’t celebrating impeachment.
“The reporter who sent out this ill-considered tweet was celebrating being off the clock after a long day covering impeachment,” the spokesperson said. “She wasn’t celebrating impeachment.”
The Hill has also requested comment from Bade, who joined the Post earlier this year after working as a reporter for Politico.
