Scarborough to GOP: ‘What job is worth selling your political soul over?’

MSNBC’s Joe Scarbrough slammed Republican lawmakers on Monday for selling out to President Trump, asking in an interview with CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert: “What job is worth selling your political soul for?”

“That’s what I don’t understand, what job is worth selling your political soul for?” asked Scarborough, a former GOP congressman from Florida who left Republican Party during Trump’s presidency. “You can look at the people who are running in Republican primaries, and you can predict what they’re going to do. It’s very disappointing.”

Scarborough announced on Colbert’s show more than two years ago that he was leaving the Republican Party due to Trump and Republican lawmakers’ loyalty to the president. He formally switched to being a political independent in October 2017.

The “Morning Joe” co-host, along with fellow co-host and wife Mika Brzezinski, once enjoyed a solid relationship with Trump that included mostly friendly interviews before the two had a falling out as Trump clinched the GOP presidential nomination in May 2016.

Scarborough also once said Trump first “pledged his fealty and loyalty” to Russian President Vladimir Putin, while accusing Republicans of “going on national television repeating Putin talking points” in December.

“Donald Trump is either an agent of Russia or he’s a useful idiot. Or he’s somewhere in between, we don’t know what it is,” he alleged late last year.

Trump has not appeared on “Morning Joe” or MSNBC since May 2016, going back to his days as a candidate.
