Fox News has promoted journalist Trey Yingst to chief foreign correspondent, the network announced Tuesday.

Yingst, who has reported extensively from overseas conflicts and crisis centers over the past several years, is based in Jerusalem and was the first U.S. reporter on the scene on Oct. 7, 2023, following Hamas’s attacks on Israel, the outlet said.

Yingst broke down in tears on Fox’s air last fall while reporting from Israel as he described how Hamas militants had “slaughtered” civilians there.

“During major breaking news in every corner of the world, Trey has been the eyes and ears on the ground for our viewers since 2018,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said in a note to staff announcing the reporter’s promotion. “Trey’s indefatigable work ethic and dedication in multiple war zones has made him an incredible asset to Fox News and we are extremely proud of his first-class journalism.”

Yingst will also pen a new book based on his reporting following the Oct. 7 attack, titled “Black Saturday,” the network said, which will include interviews with released hostages, Israeli soldiers and Palestinian civilians, in addition to Israeli and Hamas leadership.
