CNN anchor rips Trump over Stone while evoking Clinton-Lynch tarmac meeting
CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin ripped President Trump over his public criticism over an extended prison sentence recommended for his former associate Roger Stone, evoking a 2016 tarmac meeting between former President Clinton and then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch in the process.
Baldwin said it was incredible that GOP lawmakers didn’t have a bigger problem with Trump congratulating the Department of Justice for reducing a prison sentence recommendation for Roger Stone given the complaints about the Clinton-Lynch meeting.
“Let me take you back, and our viewers back, to a tarmac in 2016 on a plane, right? Remember this? Republicans lost their minds when Bill Clinton, former president Bill Clinton, met with the AG, Loretta Lynch. Remember that?” Baldwin said on “CNN Newsroom” in an interview with former federal prosecutor Gene Rossi.
Rossi replied with a laugh before Baldwin continued.
“You laugh,” Baldwin said. “But people went bananas over that. And yet nothing to add here? How is this not just total and complete hypocrisy?”
Rossi responded by saying that while the Clinton-Lynch tarmac meeting during an FBI investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s handling of her emails was improper and ill advised, current Attorney General William Barr stepping in to recommend reducing Stone’s sentence is worse.
The four prosecutors who had been working at the Department of Justice on the Stone case resigned from the case on Tuesday.
“I’ve talked to many people in the Department of Justice who still work there, career people,” Rossi said. “And they are absolutely upset, unsettled and angry that the head of the Department is basically afraid of his shadow and will do anything for the president of the United States. That makes me ill as a former career prosecutor.”
The president on Wednesday congratulated Barr for “taking charge” of the Stone case, which he dubbed “totally out of control” in a Wednesday tweet.
Congratulations to Attorney General Bill Barr for taking charge of a case that was totally out of control and perhaps should not have even been brought. Evidence now clearly shows that the Mueller Scam was improperly brought & tainted. Even Bob Mueller lied to Congress!
