Joy Behar and Meghan McCain got into a heated argument Friday on ABC’s “The View,” revisiting the 2016 election results while debating the 2020 prospects for former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
“I’m sorry, a guy that wants to take away your Slurpee is going to have a real problem in coal mining towns,” McCain said in reference to Bloomberg’s citywide regulations for sugary drinks from when he was mayor.
“And you know what? The guy who wants to take away your health care is even in worse shape,” Behar shot back.
Bloomberg has been surging in the polls, leapfrogging Democratic rivals such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg to land in third place behind Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Vice President Joe Biden, who has slipped considerably in recent weeks in the RealClearPolitics average of national polls.
“You know what, Joy? I’ve been right on election stuff and you’ve been wrong, so just trust me on this,” said McCain. “You thought Trump was going to lose.”
“Me and 100 million other people,” said Behar. “He did actually lose. Three million votes against him.”
“Does that make you feel good at night?” asked McCain. “He is still in the White House! It’s a ridiculous thing to say every single day on the show. He is president! Move on!”
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton surpassed Trump in the popular vote by about 3 million votes, though Trump bested her in the Electoral College, 304-227.
