MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace says she’ll ‘gladly’ vote for Sanders

MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace said during a segment on her show that she’d “gladly” vote for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) if he becomes the Democratic presidential nominee.

Wallace, a vocal critic of President Trump and a former White House communications director under former President George W. Bush, went on the record announcing her support for Sanders during a segment on Friday.

“I will vote for whomever — I will, I will gladly and easily and handily vote for Bernie Sanders if he’s the nominee. This is not personal,” Wallace said. “How do you, as a Democratic Party, tell everyone to get behind someone who is … and I have no fricking clue what ‘democratic socialist’ means, but everyone thinks that’s what he is, and it sounds scary.”

Wallace has repeatedly spoken out during the Trump administration. Earlier this month she referred to Trump as “the enemy” during MSNBC’s live coverage of the Iowa caucuses, saying she is “nauseous when I see Democrats fight amongst themselves.”

In 2018, Wallace ripped Trump’s reported comments referring to African nations and Haiti as “shithole countries,” saying Trump “disgraced the country.” She also drew attention later that year over her refusal to read Trump’s tweets on air.

“I’m not reading any more of this. These are boldface lies, and as his audacity and his sort of fantasies expand, I wonder what role you think the truth plays in this for any of them,” she said at the time.

Wallace’s remarks about Sanders came just a day before former ABC News anchor and longtime reporter Sam Donaldson announced his endorsement of former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg in the Democratic presidential race.
