Former secretary of State and 2016 candidate for president Hillary Clinton is launching a podcast, set to air in the spring.
Politico first reported Thursday that Clinton has signed a deal with IHeartMedia to launch a still-untitled show on the company’s IHeartRadio platform, which currently hosts other famous podcasters including Joe Rogan, host of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
Clinton’s podcast is due to launch in the late spring, and was reportedly inspired by the work of comedian and talk show host Conan O’Brien, who recently interviewed the 2016 Democratic nominee and her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, on his podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.”
“Conan just exudes enthusiasm about this platform and he does these interviews that are really evergreen and the idea with her, in part inspired by that experience, is to do the same thing,” a source close to Clinton told Politico. “She wants to try to have a wider-ranging conversation that will be lasting, so you can listen to it in a year or you can listen to it tomorrow and it will be interesting. And then of course she’ll do some ranting and raving about news of the day.”
Her recent comments about the 2020 presidential race and in particular frontrunner Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) were the source of controversy in the media as they represented some of her sharpest remarks yet aimed at her 2016 rival, who now leads the Democratic field in pledged delegates.
She has also remained a vocal critic of President Trump in recent years since her 2016 election defeat, and referred to him as the “puppet” of Russian President Vladimir Putin just days ago.
