CNN glitch briefly shows Sanders as winner of Mississippi primary

CNN briefly aired a graphic during its election coverage on Tuesday night that incorrectly projected Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) as the winner of the Democratic presidential primary in Mississippi. 

The brief moment happened as CNN host Wolf Blitzer was preparing to announce the results of the primary race as the polls closed in the state.

“This is the first test of the night for Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. And we have our first projection of the night. Bernie Sanders — not, not, not happening right now,” Blitzer said as the screen displaying the graphic that appeared to glitch.

“Joe Biden is the winner of the Mississippi primary,” Blitzer said as the screen quickly flashed a correct graphic of Biden as the winner before it suddenly switched black again.

“Joe Biden carries Mississippi. There we have it. Right — er — right there, you can see it,” he continued, motioning back to the screen before realizing the correct graphic had gone off. “Oh, maybe you can’t see it.”

“We’ll fix that technical problem. But the important thing is Joe Biden is the winner. Joe Biden is the winner in Mississippi,” he said before continuing to reiterate Biden’s victory in the segment several more times.

“Joe Biden, once again, the winner, the big winner in Mississippi,” he added.
