Meghan McCain on Tuesday ripped “Baby Boomers and millennials” for ignoring government guidelines on “social distancing” during the coronavirus outbreak, calling New York Major Bill De Blasio “a national disgrace” for going to the gym even as his city is all-but shut down.
The ire from “The View” co-host comes after Monday video out of Clearwater, Fla., showed young adults out in droves on the beach while many in the country are avoiding large gatherings in an attempt to slow the transmission of the coronavirus.
“I have been furious, furious at Baby Boomers and millennials… for people who would just have the hubris and arrogance to ignore what’s going on,” McCain said, adding that “people are going to die” if they continue to congregate in large groups, allowing the highly contagious virus to spread throughout communities.
McCain also dismissed De Blasio responding to criticism for making his daily 12-mile trek to a Brooklyn gym on the same day gyms were closing in the Big Apple. The former 2020 presidential candidate had defended himself by calling the trip an overblown “small matter.”
“There’s something wrong in the world where this kind of very small matter gets blown up like that by people, you know, who live in a world of public relations,” De Blasio said in an interview on NY-1. “I don’t live in that world. I live in the regular world.”
“Yeah, De Blasio,” McCain said in response. “I live in the real world too, and it looks pretty scary right now so maybe lead by example.”
The day before, McCain had gone after De Blasio on Twitter, telling her 720,000 followers that he “shames our city.”
The Hill has reached out to de Blasio’s office for comment.
