Dana Perino: Democrats have ‘worked themselves into this box’ on Biden after Kavanaugh rhetoric

Fox News anchor Dana Perino said Friday that Democrats have “worked themselves into this box” as former Vice President Joe Biden faces sexual assault allegations, after their previous attacks on Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Biden on Friday denied allegations from former staffer Tara Reade, who says the then-senator sexually assaulted her, issuing a statement of denial and appearing on the “Morning Joe” show on MSNBC.

The allegations against Biden come after Kavanaugh faced decades-old sexual misconduct allegations during his confirmation hearings in 2018, sparking a heated political fight. Kavanaugh was ultimately confirmed to the Supreme Court by the Senate.

Perino argued that Democrats’ comments during the Kavanaugh hearings will be something Republicans will seize on.

“On the politics of it, people are going to point to the fact that the Democrats have worked themselves into this box,” Perino said. “If you compare these allegations to what Brett Kavanaugh is alleged to have done … that shows a lot of hypocrisy. And Republicans will be able to ride that horse all the way into town.”

Perino also noted there would likely be scrutiny about Biden’s Senate papers, which are being housed at the University of Delaware.

Reade has said she filed a complaint at the time when she says the alleged assault took place. The university has said it will not release the records until two years after Biden has retired from public life.

“Why wouldn’t you let people go and look to see if — she says she filed a Senate complaint. Let’s go see if a complaint was filed. They’re going to be very vulnerable on that point,” Perino said.
