Biden to give virtual interview with Colbert on Thursday
Joe Biden is scheduled to appear on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Thursday, marking the former vice president’s fifth visit to the program and first since becoming the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
Biden’s appearance will be virtual from his Wilmington, Del., home, where he has been conducting his campaign for more than two months since the coronavirus pandemic prompted stay-at-home orders throughout the country.
Biden recently conducted a virtual town hall with Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams on MSNBC on Friday.
President Trump, whose reelection has also largely moved online during the pandemic, has not appeared on any of the late-night talk shows since taking office.
As a candidate, the former real estate mogul and “Apprentice” star appeared with Colbert on CBS in September 2015. Trump also went on NBC’s “Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon and ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” during the campaign as well.
Colbert and Kimmel — and to a lesser extent Fallon — have made criticism of the president a central part of their nightly monologues.
Trump has fired back on occasion on social media, comparing them unfavorably to the largely apolitical Johnny Carson, the late iconic “Tonight Show” host.
“The three very weak and untalented late night ‘hosts’ are ‘fighting over table scraps. Carson did a great job, it wasn’t political. I don’t know what they’re going to do in 2024 when he’s no longer President? Will be wacky in the unemployment line,’ ” Trump tweeted last year.

Colbert’s 2.78 million viewers topped rivals Fallon and Kimmel in April, who averaged 2.1 million and 2 million, respectively, for the month.
