Michael Cohen’s new book about President Trump debuted at No. 1 on the Amazon bestseller list on the day of its release on Tuesday.
The book’s release comes less than four months after Cohen, Trump’s former personal attorney who was once known as his “fixer,” was released from federal prison due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2018, he was sentenced to three years on charges of campaign finance violations and lying to Congress.
Cohen is currently on a media tour to promote the book, called “Disloyal,” which included an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt set to air Tuesday evening.
“I describe Mr. Trump as a cult leader, and I was in this cult,” Cohen told Holt.
“While I was in the cult, I was really refusing to acknowledge that the actions I was performing for my boss were morally wrong,” he continued.
Cohen later added he would advise Trump to “resign now.”
Trump has repeatedly lambasted the book, going back to last year.
Political books have sold particularly well in the Trump era.
Michael Wolff’s “Fire and Fury,” Bob Woodward’s “Fear” and former FBI Director James Comey’s “A Higher Loyalty” each sold millions of copies, while a book by the president’s niece, Mary Trump, sold more than 1 million copies in its first month of publication earlier this summer.
A White House memoir by John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser, sold nearly 800,000 copies in its first week of sales.
