ABC’s 90-minute town hall with President Trump drew fewer viewers than NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” ESPN’s NBA playoffs telecast and Fox News prime-time programming featuring Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Overall, the Tuesday evening event with the president from Philadelphia, moderated by ABC chief anchor George Stephanopoulos, drew 3.967 million total viewers. “America’s Got Talent” topped all programming that night with 5.7 million people tuning in.
ESPN’s Game 7 Western Conference semifinals match-up between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers attracted 5.23 million total viewers, while Fox News topped the cable news networks led by Carlson’s 4.8 million viewers and Hannity’s 4.5 million in the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. hours, respectively.
The Trump town hall on ABC also drew fewer viewers than a Fox News town hall with the president hosted by Hannity in June, which attracted 5.1 million viewers.
On Thursday night, CNN will host “a socially-distanced live audience” town hall with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
The event will take place in Biden’s hometown of Scranton, Pa., and will be moderated by prime-time anchor Anderson Cooper.
It will mark the former vice president’s first prime-time town hall since accepting his party’s nomination last month.
