Colbert implores Pelosi to update ‘weaponry’ in SCOTUS fight: ‘Trump has a literal heat ray’
CBS late-night host Stephen Colbert implored Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to update her “weaponry” after she spoke about having a “quiver of arrows” for battling Republicans over President Trump’s upcoming Supreme Court nominee.
“Glad to hear it, Madame Speaker, but can we update your weaponry, please?” Colbert asked.
“Democrats may have a quiver of arrows, Trump has a literal heat ray,” the “Late Show” host quipped.
Pelosi hinted on ABC on Sunday that Democrats have several options in preventing Trump from getting a third Supreme Court nominee confirmed in his first term. She was asked by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos if one option included a second impeachment trial.
“We have our options,” Pelosi responded on “This Week” on Sunday. “We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now, but the fact is, we have a big challenge in our country.”
An August New York Times report said Trump officials suggested using a “heat ray” to repel migrants from the southern border in 2018. Alexei Woltornist, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, told The Hill following the report that such a weapon “was never considered.”
Trump told Fox News on Monday that he will announce his nominee to the Supreme Court “on Friday or Saturday,” with the president adding there’s “more than enough time” to get his choice to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg confirmed.
The president said his team is currently vetting a shortlist of five women.
