CNN’s Great Big Story ending its run
The Great Big Story, a digital short-form video unit launched under the CNN umbrella less than five years ago in hopes of challenging BuzzFeed and Vice for a millennial audience, is ending its run.
“Challenging times call for difficult decisions, and it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing today that we will be closing the doors of Great Big Story,” the unit said a Wednesday tweet.
“From the minute we posted our first video, we were driven by a sense of curiosity and wonder. We traveled to over 100 countries and told thousands of stories. We worked every day to inspire, amaze and surprise you, and your support, delight and enthusiasm for our work was our greatest motivation,” the statement adds.

The Great Big Story was originally created to challenge other millennial-focused publications in October 2015. The unit is headquartered in New York and has an office in London.
As many as 30 positions could be impacted, according to Variety.
The news comes one month after WarnerMedia reportedly laid off at least 800 staffers at Warner Bros. and HBO as part of a restructuring plan by CEO Jason Kilar.
AT&T purchased Time Warner, which owns HBO and CNN, in 2018 for $85 billion, making it one of the largest media companies in the world.
