Three in four adults in US following Trump-Biden race ‘very’ or ‘fairly’ closely: Pew

U.S. adults are increasingly following news about the upcoming presidential election, according to a survey released by Pew Research on Monday, with 75 percent of those polled saying they are monitoring the race “very” or “fairly” closely.

Overall, 57 percent of adults said they are getting news about President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden at least “several times a day,” with 22 percent saying they get this news “almost all the time.”

The survey also found that almost half of U.S. adults, 48 percent, said they intend to tune in very closely to news coverage after polls close on Nov. 3.

Biden supporters expressed greater confidence their preferred news sources will make the right call around which candidate wins the election, with 49 percent expressing confidence, compared to 34 percent of Trump supporters.

Pew ran a similar survey in 2016 that found voter fatigue as early as four months before that election.

“This feeling of fatigue was particularly true among those who weren’t following news about the election very closely — 69% of this group said they were worn out compared with about 41% of those who were following the election very closely,” Pew reported at the time.

Trump and Biden will debate for the second and final time on Thursday night in Nashville, Tenn.

The new Pew survey of 10,059 U.S. adults was conducted Oct. 6-12. Its results have a margin of error of 1.7 percentage points.
