Joe Biden grants Lester Holt first interview as president-elect

Joe Biden granted NBC News’s Lester Holt his first interview as president-elect set to air Tuesday evening.

The interview, which was filmed in Wilmington, Del., will air on “NBC Nightly News” at 6:30 p.m., and additional portions will be shown Wednesday on “Today,” “Nightly News” and throughout the day on MSNBC.

Biden’s interview will also be available on NBC News’s website and NBC News NOW following its airing Tuesday.

Holt’s interview with Biden comes a day after the Michigan Board of Canvassers certified the president-elect’s victory in the state, officially giving him the state’s 16 electoral votes. The certification follows the Trump campaign’s attempts to contest the vote in several battleground states.

The General Services Administration (GSA) recognized Biden as the president-elect on Monday evening, more than two weeks after he was projected to win the election.

GSA Administrator Emily Murphy’s ascertainment of Biden’s win kicks off the official transition process, allowing his team access to millions of dollars in federal resources, government officials and national intelligence.

Her recognition of Biden’s victory was delayed as the Trump campaign mounted several legal battles challenging the vote in swing states.

President Trump, who has refused to concede to Biden, addressed the GSA’s ascertainment of Biden’s win in tweets.

“Our case STRONGLY continues, we will keep up the good fight, and I believe we will prevail!” he said. “Nevertheless, in the best interest of our Country, I am recommending that Emily and her team do what needs to be done with regard to initial protocols, and have told my team to do the same.”

In her letter to Biden, Murphy said she made the decision independently and was “never directly or indirectly pressured by any Executive Branch official.”
