Fox News plans to launch a streaming weather service titled Fox Weather next year, the network announced on Wednesday.
The weather streaming service is expected to start in the third quarter of 2021, Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott announced in a statement, making it the company’s eighth platform.
Fox Weather will commence with the Fox Weather app and will also have an integrated website and streaming service showing local, regional and national weather and live programming.
The new platform, which will be headquartered in New York City, will obtain information from more than 75 meteorologists across 17 stations, as well as from Fox News. The company said Fox Weather will “integrate the FTS radar network, cutting-edge display technology and unmatched weather and forecasting experts surrounding every major weather event, as well as precise local updates.”
Fox News named Sharri Berg, the current chief operating officer of news and operations for Fox Television Stations, as the first president of Fox Weather. Berg will leave her position as executive vice president of news operations to take on the new role.
“As FOX News Media continues to deliver the best in news content, it was only natural to expand our footprint to weather with the launch of our eighth platform, FOX Weather,” Scott said in a statement.
She added, “And there is no one better to lead this new venture than Sharri Berg. Sharri is an immensely talented executive with extraordinary leadership skills and a unique ability to collaborate and execute across multiple divisions.”
Berg said in a statement that she’s “excited to get started” on the platform.
“Weather is a vital component to news and combining our trusted reporters and expert meteorologists from FOX News and FTS nationwide, the FOX Weather products will be built to serve our audiences in a customized fashion,” she said.
