Fox News’s DC managing editor Bill Sammon to retire
Bill Sammon, Fox News Channel’s senior vice president and managing editor in Washington, is retiring at the end of the month, a spokesperson confirmed to The Hill.
Sammon told staff during a morning meeting on Monday that he is leaving the network, where he has worked since 2008. It is not yet known if the position will be filled.
Prior to working for Fox, Sammon worked as a White House correspondent for The Washington Times, where he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He has also worked for The Washington Examiner.
Sammon came under fire in 2010 after Media Matters for America, a left-leaning group, published a 2009 email in which he told his staff that reports on climate change should note critics’ skepticism about climate science, drawing the ire of climate activist and former vice president Al Gore.
Sammon had also instructed staff not to use the phrase “public option” when discussing the Affordable Care Act, opting instead to use the phrase “government option.”
When the Democratic National Committee said it would exclude Fox News from hosting 2020 presidential primary debates after The New Yorker published a story detailing its close ties with President Trump, Sammon touted network hosts Chris Wallace, Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum for their integrity and professionalism.
