Former Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) has signed a publishing deal with Simon & Schuster with the unnamed book expected to be out next year.
The Associated Press reported Wednesday that Hurd will seek to draw on his experiences as one of the few Black Republicans in Congress, as well as his work for the CIA, to provide a unifying message for the work.
“I’m excited to share stories from growing up in an interracial family in Texas, serving my country in the back alleys of dangerous places, and serving in the halls of Congress after defying the odds in one of the most competitive districts in the country,” Hurd said in a statement to the AP. “The timeless lessons I learned from these experiences can serve as a road-map for how to make the tough choices necessary to keep this century the American Century.”
The AP noted that Hurd, a former undercover CIA officer, was often at odds with former President Trump, disagreeing on issues including immigration. Hurd was among the dozens of GOP House lawmakers who joined Democrats in voting against a Texas lawsuit that sought to overturn the election results in four other key battleground states.
