Former Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) announced on Friday that he will be joining CNN as a political commentator.
“Very excited to be joining the @CNN team as a political commentator,” Jones tweeted. “Tune in this afternoon at 4ET for my ‘official’ debut on @TheLeadCNN with @jaketapper.”
The Democrat lost his reelection bid for Senate in Alabama back in November to Republican challenger Tommy Tuberville. Democrats obtained a majority in the Senate despite Jones’s loss.
Jones ran for Senate in 2017 in a special election after Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) stepped down from the position to become the U.S. attorney general. Jones went up against Republican Roy Moore in a deep-red state but was able to defeat him after sexual assault allegations came out against Moore.
Jones previously called for President Biden’s Justice Department to investigate those who spoke at the pro-Trump rally that occurred before the Capitol riot on Jan. 6. Jones has argued some of the speakers’ words incited the crowd to riot.
