Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized President Biden’s first joint address to Congress on Wednesday, calling the policies he called for a “radical, socialist agenda.”

“So far, President Biden has successfully outlined a radical, socialist agenda for the next 4 years. That should trouble every freedom-loving American,” Pompeo, also a former congressman, tweeted.

During his address, Biden called for Congress to act on several issues including the American Families Act, which would offer free community college, free pre-school and would provide expanded access to affordable childcare. He also called for reforms in immigration, background checks for guns, the climate crisis, corporate taxes and drug pricing.

Biden voiced support for his proposed tax increase which would affect individuals who make over $400,000 a year. He called on the wealthiest Americans to “pay their fair share.”

Pompeo, who has fueled speculation that he could run for president in 2024, knocked “every policy” Biden mentioned in his Wednesday speech in the House chamber.

“Nearly every policy President Biden has proposed tonight involves bigger government and higher taxes,” Pompeo added. “This does nothing but HURT the American worker.”

Biden also made a appeal for unity during his address, warning that other countries would beat the U.S. to “win the competition for the 21st Century.” Pompeo also took issue with this line from Biden.

“President Biden says that he wants to “position us to win the competition of the 21st century,” Pompeo wrote. “Let me tell you — kowtowing to China will ensure we lose that competition. We must be tough, not weak.”
