Amazon will take over the exclusive broadcasting rights of the NFL’s Thursday Night Football, beginning with the 2022 season.

The NFL expanded to a permanent Thursday night game in 2012, airing initially on NBC before moving to CBS and then Fox Sports.

Bloomberg reported a rising cost in broadcast rights fees has made it tough for many media companies to justify buying the rights to the Thursday night prime-time games.

As part of the recent long-term media deals, Fox will continue to produce the National Football Conference package of Sunday afternoon games with a focus on America’s Game of the Week, the NFL said

The deal between Amazon and the NFL was first announced in March.

“These new media deals will provide our fans even greater access to the games they love.  We’re proud to grow our partnerships with the most innovative media companies in the market,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said at the time. “Along with our recently completed labor agreement with the NFLPA, these distribution agreements bring an unprecedented era of stability to the League and will permit us to continue to grow and improve our game.”
