Vice News promoted Micheal Learmonth to editor-in-chief, the company announced Monday.

Learmonth, who was news director in charge of the U.S., will now manage coverage of Canada and Latin America as well. He reports to Katie Drummond, senior vice president of global news. The new role is effective immediately.

The editor-in-chief position has been empty since the last editor-in-chief, Ryan McCarthy, left Vice News in 2019.

In mid-March, Vice News promoted Liz Landers to chief political correspondent, tasking her with leading on-air political coverage for its TV newsmagazine “Vice News Tonight” and the outlet’s broader news coverage.

Vice Media, the parent company of Vice News, is rumored to be involved in a proposed merger with investment company 7GC & Co Holdings.
