The cast of “Saturday Night Live” recapped what they described as a “crazy” year during the show’s final episode of its 46th season.
“We started out with an audience of mostly first responders and doctors and nurses,” cast member Kate McKinnon said.
“And we quickly realized maybe a doctor or nurse who just got done with a 36-hour shift isn’t the best audience for comedy,” co-cast member Aidy Bryant added.
Legendary comic Chris Rock, who hosted the season’s first episode, made an appearance as well and made a reference to former President Trump.
“That feels like six years ago,” Rock said. “Here’s how messed up the world was when I hosted … I wanted Kanye West to be the musical guest but he couldn’t do it because he was running for president.”
Also, Rock said, “the sitting president who said COVID would disappear got COVID.”
“That was this season,” Rock said.
After Trump lost the election, Rock joked it would have been the right time for “SNL” to end its season.
“But no,” Rock said. “These idiots did 12 more shows. I mean even Jim Carrey knew it was time to go home.”
Carrey played then-Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on “Saturday Night Live” during the 2020 White House race.
