NBC pushes back return to office to October, at earliest

NBCUniversal is pushing back its return to the office until at least October due to the rise in delta variant coronavirus cases.

A large-scale return to the office will now occur on Oct. 18 at the earliest, but the date is still subject to change depending on the virus situation, Comcast Corp. Chief Administration Officer Adam Miller said in an internal email to employees Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported. Comcast Corp. is the parent company for NBCUniversal.

“Recent developments, including the rise in regional positivity rates due to variants and breakthrough cases, and guidance from medical experts and authorities have led us to the conclusion that we need to alter our approach,” Miller wrote.

The company will also require employees to be fully vaccinated to return to the office. Fully vaccinated individuals can go back to the office now but are not obligated to do so.

Proof of vaccination will also be required upon returning to the office, as the company will not be going by the honor system.

CNN recently fired three employees who lied about their vaccination status to return to the office. The company said it will be moving to require proof of vaccination and also pushed back its office return date.

Other media companies such as The Washington Post and the Washington Examiner will also be requiring vaccines to return to the office without additional restrictions.
