Geoff Bennett announces exit from NBC News

NBC News White House correspondent Geoff Bennett announced his exit from the news bureau on Thursday.

“This is my final week as fill-in anchor of the 2 p.m. hour on @MSNBC and as White House correspondent for @NBCNews,” Bennett wrote in a tweet Thursday.

Bennett also said that he’ll stick around as a contributor for MSNBC, adding he’ll share his future endeavors soon. 

“I look forward to soon sharing where you can find me next,” Bennett said. “For now, my deepest thanks to my NBC colleagues and to you!”

Bennett, who previously worked with NPR and ABC News, has been filling in as an afternoon anchor of “MSNBC Reports” since May after regular anchor Katy Tur went on maternity leave. 

Tur, who gave birth to her second child with her husband and “CBS Morning” co-host Tony Dokoupil, announced last week she’ll return to the desk on Nov. 15.

Bennett made headlines in August for choking up while on air reading the last words of Elijah McClain, whose death garnered increased national attention after the May 2020 police killing of George Floyd and other Black Americans.
