Conservative political commentator George Will has been hired as a senior contributor to cable outlet NewsNation’s nightly news program starting later this month.
Will, a veteran political journalist based in Washington, D.C., writes a regular column in The Washington Post and has won several journalism awards, including a Pulitzer Prize, during his decades-long career in the national media.
“NewsNation meets a national need for news delivered without political agendas, clenched fists, and raised voices,” Will said in a statement released Monday. “It offers news leavened by a sense of the complexity and grandeur of American history: this nation was not made by flimsy people, and it is not flimsy.”
NewsNation, which is owned by The Hill’s parent company, Nexstar Media Group, is a cable outlet based in Chicago and has recently launched new prime-time programming — including a show with Dan Abrams, a longtime legal television news analyst and media pundit.
While the outlet has hired from various other channels, two NewsNation staffers quit the network last spring over concerns of right-leaning bias and ties to Bill Shine, the former Fox News executive who later served as communications manager for former President Trump.
NewsNation has maintained that its reporting is fact-based and includes no partisan spin.
The network on Monday touted the addition of Will to its talent line-up.
