Telemundo announces new senior leadership team

Telemundo announced changes to its senior leadership team on Tuesday.

The outlet will continue to be run by the news division’s new head, Patsy Loris, who took over after the first of the year. Gabriela Tristán was named Senior Vice President of News, Gemma Garcia was promoted to Senior Vice President of Digital News and Vanessa Pombo was promoted to Senior Vice President of Business Operations and News.

Tristán, Garcia and Pombo will report to Loris, who was named as Telemundo’s new leader in November before starting in the role earlier this month.

“This is a critically important time for the Hispanic community with the country still in the grips of a pandemic and heading into what will be closely watched midterm elections,” Loris said in a statement announcing the personnel moves. “I’m very excited we have assembled a top-notch team of experienced news leaders who will ensure Noticias Telemundo continues to keep Latinos informed with rigorously reported news and innovative storytelling across all platforms.”

Loris led a revamp of Noticias Telemundo’s morning show, hoyDía, before being given the outlet’s top job.

In September, the network announced journalist José Díaz-Balart, who had served as Telum leading anchor, was getting his own daytime news show on MSNBC.

Díaz-Balart has retained a broader role at “Noticias Telemundo,” where the outlet said he would continue to anchor monthly specials and breaking news events.
