Fan ejected after altercation with NBA star Carmelo Anthony
Security ejected one person from an NBA game on Thursday after a verbal confrontation between fans and Los Angeles Lakers player Carmelo Anthony, who said one fan called him “boy.”
During the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s game with the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center in Pennsylvania, Anthony confronted at least one fan who was heckling him, according to a video of the incident shared on Twitter by Bleacher Report.
Referees quickly pulled Anthony away from the scene and called in security, who confronted the fans and removed one person, ESPN reported. While the fan was being removed, Anthony was reportedly taunted again by someone else.
Anthony told ESPN afterward one fan called him a “boy.”
“Some things were said,” Anthony said to ESPN. “Unacceptable. I’m cool with fans heckling, fans talking trash, cheering for their team, booing the other team, I’m all for that. But when you cross certain lines, as a man, you just, that’s what you’re going to see. That’s what you’re going to get, as you saw there.”
Anthony is a longtime veteran of the NBA. He joined the Lakers on a one-year contract last year.
