NBA player confirmed as CPAC speaker

Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter Freedom is scheduled to appear as a speaker at the 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC)

In a tweet on Monday, CPAC chair Matt Schlapp confirmed that Freedom will speak at the three-day event later this month.

“CONFIRMED: @EnesFreedom,” Schlapp wrote in his tweet.

Kanter Freedom, an 11-year NBA veteran, has made headlines in recent months for being a prominent critic of the Chinese government and the government of Turkey, where he grew up.

The Chinese government last year pulled Celtics’ game telecast and highlights off the air after Kanter posted a video calling Chinese President Xi Jinping a “brutal dictator.”

Kanter Freedom also called out Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James for staying silent while his endorsement partner, Nike, profits from sneakers made in China.

Freedom also called out former NBA player Jeremy Lin, basketball legend Michael Jordan and Golden State Warriors investor Chamath Palihapitiya for their silence on China and other issues pertaining to human rights.

The 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference is scheduled to take place from Feb. 24-27 in Orlando, Fla.
