Calif. Dems to host anti-war forums in early ’08 states
Three leading anti-war California Democrats will host forums on the Iraq war in the states with early primaries and caucuses.
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), the chairwoman of the Out of Iraq Caucus, and the co-chairwomen of the Progressive Caucus, Reps. Lynn Woolsey (Calif.) and Barbara Lee (Calif.), are expected to host the first forum at the end of May and continue through the summer.
{mosads}TrueMajority, a liberal advocacy group founded by Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s, will host the forum. The first event likely will be held in Iowa.
“We’re going to the early-primary states to campaign against the war and funding for the war,” Waters said. “We want to help those who want to get out of [Iraq] but just don’t have the courage.”
The three lawmakers have taken to calling themselves “The Triad.” Woolsey coined the nickname in an article that appeared in The Nation magazine in January. They have led the fight against continuing funding for the war in Iraq. Last month, 14 Democrats opposed the $124 billion supplemental spending bill.
