Sen. Johanns cleared of cancer

Sen. Mike Johanns’s (R-Neb.) office said he is cancer-free following surgery to remove part of his left lung on Tuesday.

Johanns went into surgery earlier in the day to address a spot on his lung, which was discovered during a routine medical examination. Doctors subsequently decided to operate.

{mosads}“Sen. Johanns is in recovery after three hours of surgery today,” spokeswoman Sarah Pompei said. “Doctors have indicated they found no cancer. They removed the lower lobe of Sen. Johanns’s left lung as a cautionary step. The senator is resting comfortably and hopes to leave the hospital sometime tomorrow.

“He and his wife, Stephanie, are grateful for the outpouring of support since this morning’s announcement of the surgery. They are especially appreciative of the many prayers being offered for them.”

Johanns is slated to return to his office on Monday, March 16.
