Republicans call for ‘new system’ to replace ObamaCare
Sen.-elect Todd Young (R-Ind.) on Saturday outlined the GOP’s goals for the upcoming Congress, including an effort to replace ObamaCare with “a new system.”
{mosads}Young said the GOP-led Congress will pledge to reform the healthcare system by taking “the best ideas from both parties.”
“One of our first steps on this mission will be to create a healthcare system that works for all Americans,” Todd said during the Republicans’s weekly address.
“Under ObamaCare, rates are skyrocketing and insurers are leaving the marketplace. So let’s take the best ideas from both parties and build a new system that is personal, portable and geared toward quality and affordable healthcare,” he said.
President-elect Donald Trump has said he’s open to an “amended” version of ObamaCare, saying he wants to keep aspects of President Obama’s signature healthcare law including allowing individuals to stay on their parents’s plan until the age of 26 and protections for those with preexisting conditions.
“Americans have chosen a new direction for our nation and it’s our duty to help deliver change that improves the lives of all Americans,” Young said in the GOP address on Saturday.
Young stated that despite party labels, most Americans “want roughly the same thing: an assurance that if they work hard they can create a better life for themselves and their families.”
However, the senator-elect blamed Washington for obstructing the path toward the American dream, echoing Trump’s call for fundamental reform of the political establishment.
“Too often, Americans feel like Washington gets in the way and makes fulfilling the American dream too difficult. Washington’s foot-dragging, obstructionism and overreach must end,” Young said.
Young promised change in the upcoming 115th Congress and called for the legislative chamber to “take responsibility for our own constitutional duties.”
“Over the past few decades, some in Congress increasingly abdicated their constitutional role of legislating to the executive branch and administrative agencies. Resulting regulations have choked job creation and stunted take-home pay,” Young said.
He called for “restoring legislative responsibility to the people’s representatives.”
