White House intruder caught on fence: report

A man trying to enter the White House grounds late Tuesday was caught on a fence surrounding the building, according to a new report.

The intruder tried jumping a barrier on 15th Street around 10:50 p.m. when he became entangled, TMZ said Wednesday.

“[He was] entangled in security features affixed to the top of the fence,” according to the Secret Service, which did not identify the individual.

{mosads}Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said it appears the agency followed protocol while apprehending the man.

“He was up there dangling on the fence, and the Secret Service grabbed him,” the House Oversight Committee chairman said.

Reports emerged last week that a man accused of breaching the White House perimeter earlier in March was on the grounds for at least 15 minutes before he was captured.

Jonathan Tran, 26, was arrested March 11 and charged with entering or remaining on restricted grounds while possessing a dangerous weapon, charges that carry up to 10 years in prison upon conviction. The Milpitas, Calif. native was apprehended carrying two cans of Mace in addition to a letter to Trump, according to court documents.

Officials have since begun investigating multiple failures that let the man roam the area freely. President Trump was at the White House during incident.

“The response to the alarm was lacking, and [the suspect] found vulnerabilities in the system,” a Secret Service source told CNN March 17.

Chaffetz said last week the Secret Service’s response to the incident was a “complete and utter, total failure.”
