Democrats were quick to jump on Thursday’s news that former national security adviser Michael Flynn had asked for immunity in exchange for his testimony on President Trump’s campaign ties to Russia.

“General Flynn certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit,” Flynn’s lawyer said in a statement.

The move raised red flags for several Democratic lawmakers.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) took to Twitter on Thursday, telling the Republicans that it is now “your move.”

{mosads}”Trump’s campaign is under an FBI counterintelligence investigation. His former NS advisor is asking for immunity. Your move, Republicans,” she tweeted.

Rep. Hakeem Jefferies (D-N.Y.) shared the Wall Street Journal report about Flynn’s offer, while pondering whether it is “the beginning of the end” for the administration.

Rep. Julia Brownley (D-Calif.) wrote that “smoke = fire” when referring to Flynn’s offer to testify in exchange for immunity.

Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) also commented on the latest Flynn development, stating, “This is unbelievable.”

“Flynn offers to testify in #TrumpRussia probe, but ONLY if he gets immunity. This is unbelievable,” he wrote.
Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) pondered why Flynn needs immunity in the first place.

“Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Why does Flynn need immunity?#TrumpRussia,” she tweeted.
Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) simply tweeted “Drip. Drip. Drip…” in response to Flynn’s proposal.

Flynn was ousted from his position in February after it was revealed that he had spoken with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. and misled top officials about their conversation, which reportedly included talk of sanctions. His past work for several Russian companies, for which he earned thousands of dollars, also recently came to light.
